SaM Solutions took part in the development and maintenance of a software suite for comprehensive and integrated system management of both physical and virtual machines from a single console in mixed physical and virtualized environments.
The application entirely developed by SaM Solutions provides a service-oriented interface that can be used by IT administrators for the following purposes:
· visualization and navigation through virtual and physical resources and relationships;
· checking the status and resource utilization of physical hosts and virtual machines;
· viewing a log of events related to monitored systems;
· starting, shutting down, suspending, resuming and restarting virtual machines, as well as adding or removing physical hosts to/from groups (farming).
The application works in tight integration with the following virtualization software:
- VMware ESX, VMware 3i;
- Microsoft Hyper-V;
- Xen, XenSource;
- KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine).
Server Appliance is a virtual appliance based on VMware virtualization technologies. It provides the end-user with an instance of a pre-installed server management product. The Appliance allows the end-user to start managing remote servers very quickly. Special tools (Remote Agent Deployment, Server Discovery Service) were developed for the Server Appliance.
Benefits of the Appliance:
- The end-user does not need to install the Product manually;
- The Product is installed and configured on the end-user’s system by a specialist;
- The only required action is to start the Appliance using a preferred VMware Machine player and perform the initial configuration;
- The Appliance includes special tools for automated preparation of the network environment for proper operation of the Server Operations Manager.
The target audience of the Appliance are small and medium organizations which are not able (or wiling) to hire a highly-experienced administrator.
The architecture of Server Appliance includes the following modules:
- Server Operations Manager;
- Server Appliance Service (Core Appliance daemon for Appliance-specific actions);
- Server Appliance User Interface (replacement of the default console interface);
- Server Appliance Update Manager (specific utility for updates automation);
- Server Automatic Discovery of Current Subnet;
- Server Agent Deployment (A utility for performing the installation of agents on remote Windows/Linux hosts)
